  • SHE DID IT...

She shaved the bonce and now she's bald!  Bald Is Beautiful

Mummy took control of the clippers (until they broke, then Grumpy took over!) and in a matter of minutes Grandma went from having thick hair to a fine covering of stubble!  I wasn't very brave though..... I cried.

We were very lucky with the weather so we were able to remove her locks in the glorious sunshine in Great-nans garden.  Anyway..... you don't want to listen to my ramblings!!  You want pictures.......

    HERE THEY ARE.....

So........ to those of you who have pledged donations to HeartLink....... COUGH UP!!!

To those of you who didn't believe she'd do it........ SHE DID.

To those of you who haven't yet pledged donations but wish to......... IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

A video will be available to watch soon (mummy is just trying to find somewhere to host it!)

Thanks again guys for your continued interest.

  • TODAY IS THE DAY . . . .

The countdown has begun, the clippers are out and ready . . . one nervous Grandma!!!!!

  • Catching up

Rather annoyingly the blog that mummy spent hours doing two nights ago with all the pictures of Grandma's old hair styles hasn't worked. Perturbed  Oh well, I guess it's back to the drawing board on that one.... she hopes to get the pictures up later tonight when I've gone to sleep.

Anyway, apologies for yet another delay in updating this blog but there has been a dramatic change....

Sun Dancing Sun THE SUN CAME OUT!!!  Sun  Dancing  Sun

Sorry, we've been making the most of it, getting out and about in the fresh air and I've finally been able to sit on grass - that's funny stuff that is.

Well it's all still on - Grandma is still going to remove the hair from her bonce to make her look as slappy as me.  We're going to do it this Sunday at my first birthday party if all is well weather wise.... if not then we'll revise plans and do it on Grandma's birthday (which, coincidently is the day that I was discharged from hospital last year).  Sadly Paul is double booked so can't do it but Mummy is going to step in and do it - she informs me that she is going to take great pleasure in taking revenge on Grandma for cutting her hair off all those years ago when she had nits!!!  Look out Grandma..... daughter on the loose!

Since my last blog I've been up to soooooo much.  Mostly celebrating my first birthday, which has been jolly hard work I can tell you.  Loads of visitors, lots of presents....  I'd like a birthday every day!

It's amazing to think that this time last year it was uncertain as to whether I'd live or not... now, here I am LARGER THAN LIFE & TWICE AS LOUD!  It's down to Heartlink and their endeavours that I am here so I'm going to ask you again... if you haven't already done so.......

PLEASE SPONSOR MY GRANDMA.  Heartlink desperately needs more money to fund a 4D scanner that could help to save the lives of many more babies and children.  I will need to use again it's certain......... PLEASE DIG DEEP.

Right.... I'm going to sign this blog off with a link to a video of me playing with my birthday present.....

  • A VERY HAIRY PAST!

Oh dear, my sides ache from laughing so much.... check out the pictures below of Grandma!!!  What a perm!  You could rest a dinner plate on that.  You'd never believe it was fashionable then.... think I'll stick to my baldylocks!!

Well, the date has been set.......... 5th AUGUST 2007
The venue is planned..... my great-grandma's house at my birthday party
The hairdresser is booked..... Paul Leonard will have the pleasure of shaving Grandma!

It's all very exciting and I've heard that the people at Heartlink are really happy that we're doing this.

Well, it was my 1st birthday yesterday and I had a wonderful day.  It's late now so I'll have to tell you all about it tomorrow.  But I just wanted to say.... if you haven't already sponsored Grandma then please, please, please do..... without Heartlink I wouldn't have had a birthday at all.  They NEED more money.

    Thanks

    Oscar Freddie

So, the weather has been truly awful and I've been trapped indoors with mummy because of it.  Sorry I haven't posted any messages for a bit as promised but we've been hit really badly by the floods.  Luckily for us we live in a first floor flat but the people below weren't so lucky

Anyway, all this chaos means that Grandma hasn't been able to scan in picture of her "scary hair" past and so mummy hasn't been able to put them on here for you guys to see.  To top it all Grandma has gone and gotten food poisonning so that's adding to the delay.... fingers crossed we'll get it all done soon though.

I just wanted to thank those of you who'd pledged sponsorship for Grandma's head shaving venture and to plead with those of you who haven't yet pledged to do so.  Heart Link needs all the money it can get to be able to fund the 4D scanner, the one that was used on me (they had it on loan and it'll be taken back if they can't raise the money).  So, please, please, please, please, please...... think what your donation could mean to another family, or indeed me as I might have to have further surgery when  I get a bit bigger.

Well, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past my bedtime so I'm gonna shufty off to my cot now.

    Night all.

Also.... keep checking the blog for pictures of MY HAIR THROUGH THE YEARS... I figure if I'm going to shave it all off I may as well record past, present & future to compare!! you'll be gobsmacked by the truly awful perms

  • What's this all about then...

This blog is to follow the progress of my latest Hair-brained scheme (excuse the pun!).

I'm using it to raise awareness and money for "Heartlink", the charity that means I still have my grandson. Without their funding of vital medical equipment he might not be with us now.

I'm doing a sponsored head-shave to show my gratitude to them & hopefully raise LOTS of money to help more children like my grandson.

In this blog I have recorded the tremendous journey that my grandson has been through in his short life so far. There are photos below that show just what he had to go through to become the full-of-life character that he is now. In my photo album you can see just what an amazing, and might I add handsome, fella he has become.

So, purpose 1 of this blog is to bring you up to speed on why I want to raise money for Heartlink.

Purpose 2 is to ask you to GIVE GENEROUSLY through sponsorship, then I will shave my noggin to a number one all over.

Purpose 3 will be to post pictures of all those who wish their identities to be known that have supported me in this cause.

and finally..... in the not to distant future....

purpose 4.... will be to show off my new look!

Keep checking this blog for more updates....

    Thanks

    Lynne

  • First photo of my Grandson...

    0001

This is my Grandson, Oscar Frederick when he was first born.

  • What's wrong with him???

    0004

Nobody knew why but Oscar wasn't getting enough Oxygen into his bloodstream. He was put on a ventilator in the SCBU when he was just 30 minutes old. :`(

  • Just 12 hours old...

    0011

In this photo Oscar has been transferred away from my daughter, Jeni, who had to stay in Warwick post c-section. He was transferred to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. The reason he was transferred there was because they had a specialised life support system that he may have needed to go onto called ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation). It was at this point that we became aware of Heartlink, the charity that this is all about... they had funded the ECMO machines that Oscar might have needed.

  • Family reunited

    0014

Finally, after THREE long days, my daughter, her husband & their son were reuinted and she finally got to hold him.

Jeni & Christian were able to live in the hospital because Heartlink's fundraising had made it possible to provide family rooms near to the PICU department.

  • Post surgery

    0022b

On his sixth day Oscar had surgery to repair his heart. The arteries were the wrong way round & he needed open heart surgery to switch them.

This photo was taken a couple of days after when he'd finally been taken off the main ventilators. He still required high pressure oxygen to help his lungs to function but finally..... he was improving.

  • On the ward - finally.

    0059

After two weeks Oscar was transferred to the children's ward where Mum & Dad were finally able to start caring for him themselves.

Mum & Dad were moved to another family room, again funded by heartlink, which was closer to Oscar. This gave them chance to become a family for real.

  • NO TUBES

    0104

Finally, the first picture of my gorgeous grandson without any tubes.

    Isn't he beautiful :D
